FAQ for Courses:
- Do you have proctored exams for ONL courses? No, not at this time. It is best to email any Professor BEFORE you sign up for their course, as given in the DL Student Handbook, to ask if the Prof is proctoring exams for the semester. For my ONL courses all tests MUST be taken Online.
- What textbook is required for your course? This info is given in your syllabus on the first day of class. However, you can go to ACC's website, click on the top right of the screen where it says " COURSE SCHEDULE" & look at your course. It has "Textbooks" "Directory" & then my name "Reyna, Veronica" --- click on "Textbooks" & it will give you book information for any semester. For 2021-2022 I'm using the 17th enhanced edition of Practicing Texas Politics, where I am listed as a co-author. See "Texas Book" tab above, on this website to see a picture.
- For ONL courses where do I go the first day of the class? You can go to ACC's main page & then click on ACC's blackboard page. If you are unsure how to sign up on blackboard (BB) look over the info under "Need Help Signing In" - on the bottom of the sign-in page. It will give you the information for signing up. Then once you're signed on to BB you will click on our course, everything will be there. I will send you an email on the first day of class for ONL students to give general info.
- When can I get the orientation, syllabus, & other paperwork for ONL courses? On the first day of the class you will have everything available on blackboard (BB). I do not give out items any sooner. You will have plenty of time to complete assignments.
- When can I get the syllabus for my lecture course? On the first day of class the syllabus & course schedule will be handed out to the class. If you lose it or are not there the first day you can find the syllabus on BB the first week of the course.
- Is the textbook required for either course? Your textbook will be needed for either course, as it will be very difficult to take tests without it. I highly recommend you purchase the textbook that is given in the syllabus. I do provide copies of the text on reserve in the RVS library for students to check out for a max of 2 hours.
- Can I buy an older edition of the textbook for either course? It is up to you, but it's best & recommended to buy the textbook that is in the syllabus. If you decide to get an older edition it's best to buy an edition that is no more than one edition older, i.e. if the edition I am using is the 17th enhanced edition, it's best not to buy anything older than the 16th. Again, I highly recommend buying the edition in the syllabus. In older editions items may be missing, so you may not have what you need in another edition of the text.
- For ONL courses do I need to come to any meetings? No, ONL courses do not require you to come to campus, unless you need to meet me during office hours. I will provide students with a link & time/day of online lectures, but they are optional & will be recorded for students to view at their leisure.
- If a class is full what may I do to get into the course? Get on the waiting list for the course. The other option is to check on the course the first two days of the semester, this is add/drop. The first two days (check the ACC semester calendar) students may "drop" courses that they don't want to take, for any reason. This means that if a student drops the course there would be a space open & a student can "add" that class. Adding a class is on a first come basis, first serve basis. So during those two days of add/drop you would need to watch the class on-line carefully to see if a space becomes available & then sign up quickly. Add/drop ends on the second day of any semester at 5 pm. Go to ACC's website for more detailed information.
- What is the best way to contact you for questions? Email is the best way to contact me - [email protected] -- I always try to get back to students within 24 hours. Please note that EMAIL is the best way for students to contact me (not remind). Students may use Remind texting app if they have simple questions, if you've sent me an email & it's been more than 48 hours, OR if it's time-sensitive issue or may impact your grade. (See syllabus for further information)
