This is a Distance Learning Course, or On-line (ONL) course. This course is not like a traditional lecture course because you do not attend classes, this is a self directed course where you work at your own pace. You will be given deadline dates. There are NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS accepted, you will be allowed ONE 72-hour extension for a test with 24 hours notice (see syllabus for further info). It is important that you are familiar with the internet, email, & most important is that you have access to a computer. Your work & your communication will be done through phone & especially email, so it is imperative that you have direct access to a computer (preferably one at home) & that you know how to navigate through the web.
This course will require that you be responsible for keeping up with readings, the assignments & their deadlines, taking good notes, studying, & keeping in touch with me. I am available to you through e-mail, phone calls, & if needed you may visit me during my office hours. However, you are responsible for initiating contact.
Please make sure you understand the above & can meet these minimum requirement. The class is self-paced. You will have deadlines you must meet, but you must decide when you are going to complete the work during the time allotted for each test & assignment. I will meet students online, usually once a week, to help with lectures & questions.
Each semester you will receive an updated syllabus the FIRST day of the semester, no sooner, & it will be available on blackboard (BB). NOTE: Please see the syllabus to see which edition of "Practicing Texas Politics" we will be using.
An Orientation will be required the first week of class, which provides general information & a contract between student & Professor. Students who do not turn in an orientation may be DROPPED from the course. Each day the orientation is late is -1 point from a test (maximum -15 points).
