This is a PCM (Personal Computer with Modem) Course , Distance Learning Course, or On-line (ONL) course. This course is not like a traditional lecture course because you do not attend classes, this is a self directed course where you work at your own pace. You will be given deadline dates. There are NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS accepted, you will be allowed ONE extension for a test with 24 hours notice (see syllabus for further info). We won’t be meeting in class; however, you MUST be able to take all tests at any one of the ACC testing centers in and around the Austin area. It is important that you are familiar with the internet, email, & most important is that you have access to a computer. Your work & your communication will be done through phone & especially email, so it is imperative that you have direct access to a computer (preferably one at home) & that you know how to navigate through the web.
This course will require that you be responsible for keeping up with readings, the assignments & their deadlines, taking good notes, studying, & keeping in touch with me. I am available to you through e-mail, phone calls, & if needed you may visit me during my office hours. However, you are responsible for initiating contact.
It would be of value to take a self-asset test to get an idea of what skills you would need to take a distance learning course. You should also take a look at the Distance Learning Student Handbook, which will assist you with other information to decide if this is the right course for you, on this site you will find a number of resources for distance learning students.
Here is a sample of my U.S. (ONL) syllabus --- note it's just a sample & things may change. You will receive an updated syllabus the FIRST day the session begins, no sooner, & it will be available on blackboard (BB). NOTE: Textbooks MAY change, please see BB & the syllabus the first day of class. An Orientation will be required the first week of class, which provides general information & a contract between student & Professor. Students who do not complete the orientation may be DROPPED from the course.
